The Clayton Merchants & Business Association is accepting applications for grants from local nonprofits. The awards are generated from the proceeds of its annual arts, crafts and gardening festival, Celebrate Clayton.
"Applying the proceeds to local education and preservation groups is rewarding our membership and benefits the community," said Celebrate Clayton Chairman Carl Butler. Some of the previous recipients have been Foxfire Magazine, RCHS Drama Department, Rabun County Band Boosters, Rabun Youth, Inc, Rabun County Historical Society, The Hambidge Center, Habitat for Humanity, and Friends of the Greenway.
Eligible organizations must have approved nonprofit status, and benefit either youth educational or cultural preservation in Rabun County. The successful applicant will be expected to have volunteers participate before, during and after the Celebrate Clayton event. Interested applicants should contact Celebrate Clayton by writing Celebrate Clayton Grant Application, P O Box 1116, Clayton, GA 30525; by email; by phone 212-0155, 212-2149, or 982-9432; or in person at Butler II Gallery or Rabun County Civic Center.
"Celebrate Clayton showcases Clayton for one day, but we feel it is important for businesses to display support throughout the year by giving these awards," said Celebrate Clayton Entertainment Chairman Chashe Hunnicutt.
Celebrate Clayton 2010 has been scheduled for Friday, April 24 and Sunday, April 25, using both sides of Main Street in downtown Clayton. The event includes entertainment, food and kid’s activities as part of a day of family fun from 10 am to 5 pm. Artists representing a range of styles, as well as gardening suppliers and growers, will exhibit on Main Street in downtown Clayton. Admission is free for the annual event, which benefits local youth education and cultural preservation.
